One thing in particular has been on my mind for the last several weeks, perhaps even months.
It’s actually a question: “What do people pay for (or buy)?”
I’ve thought about many things I think people pay for (e.g. cars, computers, food, housing, desks, furniture, etc.).
But it wasn’t clear to me how to simplify this “problem” until this morning.
So I’m now asking: “What do I pay for (or buy)? And WHY?”
So far, this has turned out to be a much more difficult question than I thought. There can be so many variables that produce the ultimate action of purchasing. For example, I go to restaurants and pay for food. But am I going for the customer service, the food, convenience (e.g. fast service), selection, elegance, or because of some other reason(s)?
I’ve got two thoughts: (1) I may be over-thinking this. I may need to drastically simplify it. (2) It depends (e.g. it’s not black and white – there’s a spectrum). (Which seems reasonable since there are many different “target-markets.”)
Either way, this is partly why I like people. People, in my opinion, are a constant “problem.” They’re always evolving. They can (probably) never be “solved.”
To be continued…
